The Honorable Allen B. Clark, Jr.
MILITARY: Allen Clark received the Purple Heart after his tour at Dak To Special Forces camp in South Vietnam where he served as a Military Intelligence Officer assigned to 5th Special Forces Group. His injury required amputation of both legs below the knee, but he walks today on artificial legs unaided by walking devices. An “Army Brat,” son of a twenty -year army officer, Allen graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and was commissioned originally in the Army Corps of Engineers. He volunteered for service in the Republic of Vietnam and was recognized with receipt of the Silver Star for gallantry in action, Combat Infantryman’s Badge, Army airborne wings, and Vietnam Campaign Ribbon with two battle stars.
VETERANS AFFAIRS/PUBLIC SERVICE: Allen served on the state level during 1979-1981 as a Special Assistant for Administration to Texas Governor William P. Clements, Jr. In 1989, he was nominated by President George H.W. Bush and confirmed by the U.S. Senate as Assistant Secretary for Veterans Liaison. In 1991, he received his second VA confirmation as Director of the National Cemetery System. Allen joined VA North Texas Health Care System in 1996 as Administrative Officer for Spinal Cord Injury Service and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Service and served as Public Affairs Officer from 2001 to 2005.

PRIVATE SECTOR: After achieving a Master of Business Administration in finance and investments, Allen became a stock and bond portfolio manager in a bank trust department and was designated as a Chartered Financial Analyst. He has worked in oil and gas exploration, real estate marketing, and mortgage lending. He was president of three oil industry companies in Midland, Texas as well as co-founder of his own real estate investment company in Austin, Texas.
COMMUNITY/CIVIC: Allen attended Gonzaga High School and was a member of the junior debating team and participated in debate activities at Phillips Exeter Academy. Upon graduation from West Point, he was recognized as one of two best debaters in his class of 1963. Allen has addressed many audiences as a candidate, public official, and motivational speaker. He has also written a self-published book, Oh, God, I’m Dead, (out of print). Allen participates in many organizational activities and was the Disabled American Veterans Texas State nominee in 2000 for Outstanding Disabled Veteran. He is a member of the American Legion, Disabled American Veterans, Military Order of the World Wars, Military Order of the Purple Heart, Military Officers Association, Sons of the American Revolution, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Vietnam Veterans of America.
